Once again this year our congregation will be joining with our national church in serving our neighbors on God's Work Our Hand day, Saturday, September 12. This year we are joining forces with our neighbors up the street at the Catholic Church of the Resurrection. Resurrection has been holding a day of service on the same weekend as God's Work Our Hands day for the past five years. Joining forces with Resurrection allows us to offer more choices than ever on where to serve. We will be serving at more than a dozen locations providing needed cleanup efforts, food and health assistance, and more as we build relationship through service and kindness.

The more volunteers we have the easier it gets for everyone. Mowing should be done on Thursday, Friday or Saturday and is scheduled by Dan Garey. Advent has a riding lawn mower that Dan will show all volunteers how to access and use. Weeding can be done according to your availability and schedule. Please bring lawn bags, gloves, and any necessary tools you need.
Helping fight hunger and poverty in our communities is more important than ever. Food Pantries across the region have seen increases in need as people work through job losses, wage losses, increased medical costs, and more. We were able to provide a financial gift and two loads of non-perishable food to our friends at Our Community Hunger Center in Twinsburg.
We invite you to pick up extra items to share with the Food Pantry here in Solon at Church of the Resurrection over the next month. You can drop off items in the church entrance any day between 9 am and 7 pm. Place your items in the food donation box on the right side of the entrance area. Items of greatest need include
Dana has sets of materials with instructions for making 5 Facemasks for the staff at University Hospitals. You will need a sewing machine and thread, all other materials are included.
We'd like to have these made by Friday, April 10. If you can help out, please click here to email Dana or contact her by phone/text. Those living in long-term care facilities are generally at high risk and in many cases can not have visitors during this time. Getting a picture drawn by a child or a note of encouragement at this time is especially appreciated. Since we do not know who, specifically, will receive them, please do not send faith based materials. "You are Loved" is just as meaningful during this time as "Jesus Loves You." All notes and cards can be sent to Advent or dropped off at the church for bulk distribution to local long-term facilities.
What’s Needed? We are most in need of the following non-perishables and cleaning supplies:
Collect any of the items listed, fill a sturdy paper / shopping bag, and drop it off in Trivison Hall anytime throughout Lent. OR order online and have THEM deliver right to Church of the Resurrection (32001 Cannon Rd., Solon OH 44139) |
