Servant Ministries

And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Micah 6:8

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
and the Northeast Ohio Synod

The ELCA is a community of faith that shares a passion for making positive changes in the world. Our faith is built around a strong belief in God as made known to us in Jesus Christ. Through worship, service, and education, we practice our faith, grow our relationship with God and experience God's grace in our lives. We also work hard to put our faith into action. In today’s complex world, we strive to make a difference in practical, realistic ways.
With more than 10,000 congregations across the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and 4.2 million members—we welcome you to experience this church right here in your community through Advent Lutheran Church's ministry and programs.

Lutheran Metro Ministry's Men's Shelter

Since 1969, Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry (LMM) has answered Micah's call to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God by serving others in the cause of justice. LMM was established in response to the urban unrest of the 1960's, specifically the upheaval in Hough. Today, LMM serves and advocates with people currently and previously involved in the criminal justice system, youth at-risk, people with disabilities, people dealing with long term care needs and people who are homeless.
Advent partners with LMM four times a year serving the Sunday evening meal at the Men's Shelter at 2100 Lakeside Avenue. The shelter serves meals to 600-800 men 3 times a day 365 days a year.

Hands Hearts and Homes Outreach

Hands, Hearts and Homes Outreach (H3O) seeks to share Christ's love with the homeless and severely economically disadvantaged persons of Cleveland.
The two major projects of H3O are Advent Furniture Ministry and Hearts for Hunger. Advent Furniture Ministry picks up donations of furniture throughout the east side of metro Cleveland and then delivers the furniture to individuals and families that are coming out of various Cleveland shelters or are experiencing severe economic hardship. Many of our clients need beds for themselves or for their children. It is amazing how much difference the gift of a table and chairs, couch or bed can make in the life a family that does not have these basic furnishings.
Hearts for Hunger delivers food and personal care items to the homeless and economically disadvantaged of Cleveland monthly at Project Save in West Cleveland. Deodorant, soap, disposable razors, toothpaste and toothbrushes, chapstick, combs, hats, gloves, handwarmers, and other essential items are or great need and provide a great blessing.

New Covenant Lutheran Hunger Center

The Hunger Center is part of the Great Cleveland Hunger Network and provides those in need with a conveniently located source for food, counseling, and assistance on a regular basis.
Advent partners with New Covenant by collecting donations of non-perishable food and groceries on the first Sunday of each month. Monetary donations can also be given to the Hunger Center and allow for the purchase of low-cost food products through the Cleveland Food Bank for use at the Hunger Center.
